Christmas promises to be a lovely time at Ivy Cottage for Ruby Buttons, Violet Pickles and Miss Biscuit. When they find out that their friend Annie's mother is ill they decide to share their Christmas with Annie and her family.

Violet Pickles is not very pleased when her friend, Ruby Buttons, turns their bedroom at Ivy Cottage into a home for sick animals.

Miss Biscuit, a nanny, decides to retire to Ivy Cottage in the country, taking with her Violet Pickles, a rag doll. Violet is scared of the countryside so Miss Biscuit makes her a friend, another rag doll - Ruby Buttons.
